Rebates and Incentives (Charging)

INCENTIVE UPDATE: Taxpayers once again qualify for a 30% Federal rebate (up to $1,000) on costs associated with the installation of an EV charging station through 12/31/2020. More info: https://www.irs.gov/forms-pubs/about-form-8911

MGED Drives Electric Charging Rebates

Customers can charge their EVs faster with a Level 2 charger and that helps our customers limit charging to off-peak hours: 8 PM to 8 AM, Monday through Friday and all weekend. This reduces peak demand charges and keep all customers’ bills lower. MGED offers rebates for chargers and billing credits to customers who charge their EVs off-peak.

Need a new Level 2 EV charger?

MGED will pay a rebate of up to $300 (but no more than half the cost) for the purchase and installation of a certified Level 2 EV charger or higher speed to charge an electric vehicle at your home. A Level 2 charging system consists of a 240 volt wiring circuit from your house electrical panel to a NEMA 14-50 outlet or to a home EV charging station. In addition, MGED will provide an billing credit of $5 per month when you charge your EV only between 8 PM and 8 AM Monday-Friday or anytime on weekends. Customers must provide the signed off-peak charging agreement committing to a one-year minimum off-peak charging time frame to qualify for the charger rebate and bill credit.

Instructions will be provided to ensure off-peak charging verification.

Got your charger already? Get your credit for off-peak charging!

MGED will pay a billing credit of $10 per month when you charge your EV only between 8PM and 8AM, Monday-Friday or anytime on weekends. Customers must provide the signed off-peak charging agreement committing to a one-year minimum off-peak charging time-frame to qualify for the bill credit.

Applying for your rebate/credit

You should have your charging system installed and ready to go before you drive your new EV home for the first time! Save the invoices and/or receipts for your charging system installation expenses. As soon as you have your new EV at home, scan or copy the vehicle registration, and submit it with the application and invoices/receipts for your new charging station if applicable. Your rebate will be credited to your account as a rebate credit and your EV off-peak charging bill credits will begin within 6 weeks.

All rebates and incentive offers for billing credits are subject to change at any time so apply as soon as you can to claim your incentive!
